West Lothian Triathlon has a thriving junior section. From its launch in 2012 the aim of the club has always been to encourage participation and fun for all of our athletes. We now have around 30 members with ages ranging from 8 to 17.
Although we make use of other venues the majority of our training takes place in Armadale Academy each Sunday morning. Sessions run from 9:30 to 11:00 and are led by our team of level 1 and level 2 triathlon coaches. Armadale Academy is an excellent venue where we have exclusive use of outdoor playing fields, an indoor studio and the 20m pool. This allows us the flexibility to deliver both run and swim training from a single location, regardless of the weather. Cycle training is usually delivered at the Civic Centre in Livingston which provides a safe environment to teach essential bike handling and transition skills.
Many of our kids love to take part in a variety of multisport races throughout Scotland including duathlons, aquathons and, of course triathlon, but there is no pressure on any of our members to compete. We ask nothing more than for them to enjoy the sport and support their team mates.
New members are encouraged to come along to an initial, free of charge, training session. All that we require is that members are over 7 and can swim 120m without stopping. If your child would like to join following this session the cost of membership is £8 per month via Standing Order (£5 per month for any brothers or sisters that attend).
Alan Dickie is our junior co-ordinator and one of the coaches. If you have any questions about joining the club then please contact him
